First off, I've discovered a new batch of audio stimulation, which comes in the form of this.
It's basically a site that has a bunch of playlists. I'm trying to find another blog that's more my type of stuff because I only find a select few songs in these playlists. I'm not going to openly proclaim on this blog why these types of sites are so amazing...
Anyway, what else...callbacks were good. It was extremely stressful within the first 5 minutes, but after that John and I both calmed down. I meant to set out all the sheet music I spent hours printing on the ground and tell them to grab it, but alas, i forgot. By the end, I felt like I knew what I was doing. I did screw up on piano a few times, and I wanted to ask Ms. Smith* (she was in there the whole time, which was lovely) who would ever voluntarily use a key signature with an E# in it, but I didn't. It was interesting.
We have our full, 4-person cast! The list is posted on Sunday.
Yesterday in AP English, we were reading "Leda and the Swan" by Yeats, and it is basically an allusive poem about Greek mythology and, more deeply, the conquistadores and forcing knowledge/religion on their colonies. But that's not the point. The entire poem is an image of a girl, Leda, being raped by a Swan (who is Zeus in animal-form). I volunteered to read it, not phased at all, and I thought I read it comfortably.
But then after class, Dr. Douglas walked up to me as I left the room, and she was like, "Diane, could I talk to you for a second?"
And I obviously said, "Sure," and she was like, "Did that poem...make you feel uncomfortable? I noticed you were kind of uncomfortable in reading it..."
At that point I was way more uncomfortable than I ever had been reading it, and I said casually, "No, I was fine!"
Her: "Okay, good...are you sure?"
Me: "Yeah, really!"
And I left...
It was super-awkward.
Now I have to study for an APES test. Just what I want to do with my Saturday...Hannah and I are going thrifting later.
