Why I Should Be Buddhist

Note: This may sound like it's written by a hippie/stoner/zenmaster.

I have explored a little bit more about Buddhism recently, and the more I read about it, the more I realize that I should consider it my "faith," though that's kind of a paradox because Buddhism is about understanding--not faith.

The teachings of this way of life, I'll call it, include things like the Four Noble Truths, the Middle Path, the Five Precepts, etc.

I just am so in touch with the ideas of karma and self-sustenance and accepting the basics of life that I think it's more of a label to my "faith" than a new spiritual endeavor. Though I resent the fact that Matt claimed to be Buddhist, that was the first factor that ever intrigued me about him.

Buddhism focuses on wisdom and understanding while maintaining a sense of humility and acceptance of others.

Compassion, lack of "worship," and austere happiness are all facets of Buddhism that really appeal to me. I feel like I'm buying a car or something. But really, it just fits my personality slash current understanding of the world so well.

Speaking of understanding, I'm reading "A Brief History of Time" by Stephen Hawking. It's really fascinating to read a concrete book about astronomy and the origin/conclusion of the universe, which are obviously both speculations. He covers things like black holes, the Uncertainty Principle, and the expansion of the universe. It's all so amazing.
